9 Easy Hairstyles You Can Do Yourself

woman doing hair

Have a look online for some hairstyle inspiration and you’ll find thousands of results, yet many of them require a large chunk of time and an arsenal of styling tools and products. While these may be great for special occasions, they’re not a realistic aim on a busy morning.

With that said, there are still plenty of options out there if you’d like to change up your look and try something new, without having to dedicate hours to your hair. Read on as Nubi shares nine easy hairstyles that you’ll be able to create in no time!

1. A Curly Ponytail

Is a ponytail your go-to style when you’re short on time? One way to give your regular pony an edge, as well as plenty of volume, is to transform it into a curled ponytail.

To do this, start by tying your hair back as you usually would. It doesn’t matter if your ponytails are normally high or low – this style will work for both!

Once you’re happy with your ponytail, reach for your curling iron. Nubi’s Sleek Curl clipless curling wand is perfect for this as its 3/4″-1″ barrels will provide the tight curls that you need for this style.

Separate your ponytail into a few sections and then curl each one individually. The smaller your sections, the more curls you’ll have. Once you’re done, run your fingers through your curls to loosen them up before rocking your new and improved ponytail!

2. A Braided Bun

Just like a ponytail, a bun is another style that many people opt for when they’re looking for something quick and easy. However, just like a ponytail, a bun can also start to seem a little drab if you’ve been wearing one for several days in a row.

Opt for a braided bun instead and you’ll be able to give your go-to style some beautiful texture and intricacy. It also looks a lot more complex than it actually is, making this a style that’s suitable for special occasions too!

There are a few ways to achieve a braided bun. The easiest is to tie your hair into a ponytail, braid it, and then twist it into a bun before pinning it in place.

Another option would be to start by parting your hair down the middle and then braiding each half. Then, take the ends and twist them together to form a bun at the nape of your neck. Use hair pins or an elastic band to secure your bun in place. Bobby pins will help you to hide any flyaways to keep your hair looking sleek.

3. A Scarf or Ribbon Braid

Braids are a great way to add some interest to your hair but, let’s face it, some braids can take a while to create. Three-strand braids tend to be the simplest, yet they lack the excitement that other braid types provide.

To get around this, try braiding a scarf or a ribbon into your hair. Silky materials tend to be the easiest to work with, with this look being one that has been particularly popular on runways lately. Choose a scarf that coordinates with the outfit you plan on wearing for a fashionably cohesive look.

To create this style, all you need to do is tie your hair into a ponytail, securing it by wrapping your scarf around it. Then, split your ponytail in half, so that your scarf sits in the middle. Start braiding your mane into a standard three-strand braid, using the scarf as one of the strands. Once you’re near the end, tie your scarf around the bottom of your braid to secure it in place.

4. A Sleek, Slicked Back Ponytail

The Blow Me Away Hairdryer

There are plenty of easy hairstyles out there that look sleek and stylish, and a slicked back ponytail is the perfect example of one.

The key to pulling this style off is to prep your hair beforehand. Run a hair serum through your damp locks before blow drying your hair in the direction you want your ponytail to fall in. This means deciding whether you want to go high or low, as well as where you want your part to fall. To encourage a smooth, frizz-free finish, use a hairdryer that offers a cool shot function, like the Nubi Blow Me Away. Blast your hair with this once you’re done drying it to help lock it in place while giving it a glossy sheen.

Then, brush your hair to smooth it down. If your hair is prone to frizz, try brushing it with a heated styling brush, such as the Simply Sleek Brush from Nubi. It will smooth and straighten your hair as you brush it, giving it the frizz-free finish that you need.

Finally, tie your hair into a ponytail and then give it another layer of hair serum to counter any flyaways.

5. A Side Braid

Side braids are one of the best easy hairstyles to try if you’re going for a cute or romantic look. They’re beautifully feminine, consisting of a single braid that falls over one shoulder.

Start by gathering your hair to one side. If you have a side part, then bring your hair over to the side that sits opposite from your part. This will make your hair easier to braid. How far over to the side you pull it depends on your layers. While there’s nothing wrong with having a few loose strands around your face, too many will look overly messy rather than messy-cute!

Next, create your braid. This is where the versatility of this hairstyle really shines. If you want to keep things simple, go with a three-strand braid. Begin braiding just below your ear and work your way down before securing the end with an elastic band.

Alternatively, get creative by trying out different braid types. A side French braid could wrap around the lower half of your head in such an elegant way, while a four-strand braid would give this look more intricacy.

6. A Bubble Ponytail

If you’re looking for easy hairstyles to emulate your fun and playful personality, a bubble ponytail is the way to go. This is another style that takes a regular ponytail to the next level, and it also happens to be so quick to create.

Begin by brushing your hair to smooth it down. Spritzing a styling spray onto your brush before running it through your mane will help to keep every hair in place.

Then, pull your hair into a ponytail, using your brush to make sure that there aren’t any bumps or knots. Once you’re happy with it, secure it with an elastic band.

You can now work on creating your bubbles. All you need to do is add in another elastic band one or two inches below the first, depending on how long your hair is and how many bubbles you want. Once the band is in place, gently pull on the ‘bubble’ to give it a rounder shape.

Continue on down your ponytail with more elastic bands. Then, work on each bubble again, making sure that they’re all a similar shape and size. Once you’re done, give your hair a once-over with some hairspray to ensure that your beautiful bubbles last all day!

7. Half-Up, Half-Down

Casual yet sophisticated, as well as wonderfully functional, the half-up half-down hairstyle is one that always seems to be a trend. This is down to how versatile this hairstyle is.

The standard way to go would be with a half-up ponytail, or even a bun. However, if you want to mix things up even more, you have plenty of options. Try a half-up bow by taking some hair from your half-up ponytail and looping them around, before tucking them back into their elastic band. A braid instead of a ponytail works well too, as does a half French twist. You could even take some of the other easy hairstyles that we’ve featured on this list, such as the bubble ponytail or the braided bun, and turn them into a half-up hairstyle.

8. A Double Layered Ponytail

Looking for easy hairstyles that will leave your hair looking more voluminous? The double layered ponytail is it. Although this style actually consists of two separate ponytails, it’s done in a way that makes it look as though you just have a single, beautifully thick, and bouncy ponytail.

Give it a try by parting your hair from ear to ear. This will divide it into two halves, one above the other. Pull the top section into a ponytail, just as you would when tying a half-up ponytail. Secure with an elastic band, ideally one that’s similar in color to your hair.

Then, take the lower section of your hair and tie this into a ponytail too, securing it just below where your first ponytail is tied. Take a small section of hair from the base of this ponytail and wrap it around both ponytails, before securing it with a bobby bin.

Then, gently tease your ponytails, paying more attention to the top one when it comes to adding volume. Ideally, you want the top ponytail to be hiding the bottom one, so that all you see is a single ponytail that looks longer and fuller than it usually would!

9. Mini Braids

If you like wearing your hair down but want to mix up your style a bit, mini braids are perfect.

Simply style your hair as you usually would when it’s loose. Then, take a small section of hair and braid it into a three-strand braid. You can either secure the end or leave it loose, with the no-tie mini braid look being recently sported by the likes of Olivia Rodrigo.

Once you’re done, you can either leave it at that or add in another braid, or even a few more, around your head to give your locks even more texture.
